Going before God in prayer for family strength, unity, or protection? These are the perfect short family prayers & prayer prompts for every season!
As we progress through the seasons of life, our prayers for our family changes and shifts. What was once a prayer to start our own family becomes prayers for family strength in hard times, unity in divisive times, and protection in traumatic times. Through it all, we pray for God’s divine peace to anchor us and his Holy Spirit to lead us.
With every prayer, we become more confident: God is faithful. We can trust him. We see his hand at work in our lives and can look back to see how far he’s brought us.
Since he’s been meaningful in our life, we want to see our families experience a relationship with him, too. We want our children to know the richness of a life lived for Christ. Above all else, they must be saved.
So, as we pray for our families, we are — in a sense — making investments into heaven for them. We are bringing them before the very throne of God.
Join us as we delve into prayer for family: seeking strength, unity, protection, peace, and salvation. Use these short prayers as prayer prompts to get you started.
Prayers For My Family
Prayer For Family Strength
Dear Lord, I know you are the source of our strength. Your strength is perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). You give us the power to endure weakness, knowing that you will show yourself strong. You offer grace to us, and that grace is sufficient. When we encounter hardships, you are our strength. When we endure persecution, you are our strength. Whatever circumstances we find ourselves in, give us the strength to make it through to the other side of the trial, so that you may be glorified. We know you don’t delight in suffering, Lord. You are for us and you want what’s best for us. Teach us that any strength we may have comes only from you.
If we’re to have a “thorn in the flesh” like the Apostle Paul, then give us the grace to endure it and use it as an opportunity for getting closer to you. We know in this life we will have hardships. Help us to use them wisely. Help us to understand the purpose in them. And help our family to grow stronger in you because of them. In Jesus name, amen.
Prayer For Family Unity
God, you are a God of Restoration. You restore relationships and redeem hearts. You transform lives. We pray for our family unity today. Help us to build bridges to reach one another for your glory. Remove any spirit of offense from us and keep us from being easily offended. Let the fruit of the Spirit –love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) — be evident within our family. I pray that no plot against our family unity will prosper.
Help us to be devoted to one another in love and honor one another above ourselves (Romans 12:10). Help our marriage honor you, and teach us to be the parents our children need us to be. Let us be godly examples to our children so they may desire a family like ours one day. Bind us together, Lord. Our hope is in you. In Jesus name, amen.
Prayer For Family Protection
Dear Lord, our world is filled with situations that cause fear and anxiety. We pray your protection over our family. Help us to remember you have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Satan may come to steal and destroy, but you have come so we might have LIFE and life more abundantly (John 10:10). You are our protector and defender; in you will we put our trust. No weapon formed against us will prosper! We take refuge in you and we exalt you. Protect our minds and our mental health. We set our thoughts on you and “whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8).
Help us to stand firm against the enemy. We know that when we are tested we will come forth as pure gold (Job 23:10). You are our keeper and the lifter of our head. Protect our family. Guard our hearts and minds. Be with us as we come and go. Set your angels all around us. In Jesus name, amen.
Prayer For Family Peace
Heavenly Father, I raise my family to you today and pray for divine peace to enter into our home. You are the Peace Speaker. Just as you calmed the winds and the waves throughout Scripture, I ask that you calm the storms that have erupted in our family. Help us to hunger and thirst after you and your righteousness. Fill us with your Spirit. Let the Fruit of the Spirit be evident in our speech and actions toward one another.
Also bring financial peace to our family, Lord. Money problems cause much stress for families today. Direct us to resources and ministries who are able to help us learn to honor you with our finances. Help our family make wise choices in this area.
I pray that the peace of Christ rules in my family’s hearts (Colossians 3:15). Show us how to live in harmony with one another and be thankful for one another. In Jesus name, amen.
Prayer For My Family’s Salvation
God, we know that you want all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). I ask that you draw my family to you, that each family member may know you personally and spend eternity with you. As the old hymn states, “Above all else, I must be saved.” My family needs your salvation. Give them a heart to seek after you, eyes to see your goodness, and ears to hear your voice. Use me to bless them and help them to see you working through my life. Help me to be salt and light. Reveal opportunities to share about you and your love for them. Give me discernment to know the right timing and the words to speak.
Scripture tells us we have all sinned and fallen short of your glory, but godly sorrow brings repentance and leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:10). Bring each of us to that place of godly sorrow, make our heart sensitive to repentance, and lead us to salvation. Change our heart. Give us a total transformation from our worldly ways to your ways. We know that you can change even the hardest heart — you are the Waymaker! Even when we can’t see it, you’re working. Thank you for drawing each family member to you: my spouse, my children, and myself. In Jesus name, amen.
